4 Steps to Discover a Child’s Talent and Find a Passion for the Soul

1. Observe

The very first thing a parent should pay attention to is the natural development of the child. What is he interested in doing? What does he talk about and dream about most often? What does he do best? To add up the full picture, these same questions can be discussed with his teachers, coaches and tutors.

By carefully observing the child, you will see exactly what he is drawn to and in what activities there is a potential for development. And when you notice an inclination towards something or an obvious ability, then it remains only to support and move towards the realization of this potential.

And yet – no doubt! Doubts inhibit any development, so it is better to treat the child’s abilities with ease and curiosity.

Listen to the wishes of the child. Believe in him more than he believes in himself. And remind you that you can rebuild the route at any time.

2. Build trust

For a child, basic trust in the world is important. For the first time it is formed in infancy in contact with parents, and then much depends on significant adults.

The first significant adults are mom and dad who accept you for who you are. It is acceptance that strengthens the feeling of trust and gives normal self-esteem, which helps to reveal talents.

But a significant adult can also be a relative, family friend, or teacher. That is, someone who is interesting to the child and whose opinion matters. The task of the parent in this case is to notice figures that are significant for the child, note their influence and not be jealous.

It may be that the child will behave differently with other significant adults: be less stubborn and try harder. And that’s okay! This means that the child already has an understanding of social norms and feels more relaxed with his parents.

3. Try new things

Talent is revealed in action. When children are in the same class and go to the same clubs together, they begin to think in the same way. Therefore, a diverse life outside of school will broaden your horizons and help you discover non-obvious skills and qualities.

Create an environment in which the child will be involved in various activities. So he can observe other adults, see new patterns of behavior and learn to “play” by unfamiliar rules. And also – to develop memory and the ability to switch attention.

For example, offer a football fan to learn how to swim crawl and breaststroke, and also master the “Mafia” in a board game club. And if these activities don’t interest you, keep trying and experimenting with new things.

4. Give choice

Control and restrictions are part of the educational process, but the main thing here is not to overdo it. It is great if the parent is involved in the life of the child and offers new vectors of development. At the same time, it is equally important to leave time for personal choices and experiments.

Decide on priorities and agree with the child. For example, to maintain academic performance at a certain level, three times a week to study English, two – volleyball and photography. Let your child fill in the rest of the time.

He can go for a walk, take up a new hobby, or even do nothing, which is also normal. Boredom is generally useful – it helps to reflect, integrate the experience gained, and also – to feel curiosity and anticipation.

Often moving from a lesson to a club, and from a club to training, the child does not have time to get bored and does it automatically. The feeling of limited freedom causes a competition of ideas, and the child gets excited about how he can manage his time, what to spend it on. Such pauses and the opportunity to choose have a positive effect on development.
